Hi Virus, Sony A7s would be the preferred camera for underwater video bit not so much for stills. All of the above photos were shot at ISO-200 and exposed with twin strobes, almost all U/W macro is strobe lit. Most wide angle is a combination of strobes and A/V light (blue water backgrounds). This is equipment I am testing for a magazine review and I plan to own the A7r II for my personal U/W work. Nauticam housing should be ready about four weeks after the release of the camera in the US.

Hi Phil, so I'm curious as to what port you were using. Nauticam have been telling me for the last two months that they haven't yet made a port for the 90mm macro. Or was that just the usual line of b*llshit that comes from Nauticam USA and they've had a port ready all along. Thanks for your time.

The Sony FE 90mm macro port is still in the works but should be released soon. The port will be a 100mm direct mount to the housing with no extensions or adapters. The new port will have the standard 67mm thread for flip adapters and closeup lenses.

I used a 120mm DSLR macro port with a 100mm to 120mm adapter and an extension ring, three O-rings total. With the configuration the lens sits about 12mm back from the port glass making the use of an external closeup lens somewhat useless because of the more than 12mm gap between the two lenses.

Simon:

No bullshit.  There probably wasn't a final port solution when you asked, but there is now.  It is a little silly to insinuate that a company in the business of selling you gear wouldn't want to sell you gear.

Dear Phil

My 90G macro arrived today and my A7rII will arrive in one moth's time. I planned primarily using a Nauticam housing..

However, my prelimanry test shooting on land found the 90 G macro is very slow in AF on my A6K. Is that also the case on A7?

  • 3 weeks later...

This is the Nauticam port for the 90mm macro and NA-A7II housing. Has a mounting point at the front for a focus light. Seems very well balanced when used with the attached float arms and Inon Z-240 strobes.
